Founded on September 16, 2002, Hatcher Insurance, Inc. specializes in commercial insurance for small to medium-sized businesses and personal lines coverages for clients throughout Florida. As an independent agency, Hatcher Insurance represents many of the nation's most prestigious and respected insurance companies, giving clients a broad base of product availability needed to provide them with the most competitive and comprehensive policies. Based in College Park near downtown Orlando, the independent agency provides the type of personalized service where relationships are highly honored.
Mike Hatcher, President, is a third generation Orlandoan and heir of a family whose history revolves around the insurance industry. The roots of Hatcher Insurance date back to 1942 with the founding of J. Rolfe Davis Insurance, still today one of the south's largest and most respected independent insurance agencies founded by Mike's maternal grandfather, former Orlando Mayor J. Rolfe Davis. After a lifetime around the agency, and 21 years as a professional agent working for his grandfather and then his father, Marion Hatcher, Mike realized a lifelong dream by starting his own agency in 2002 during a buyout phase of the J. Rolfe Davis Insurance agency history.
Today, Hatcher Insurance thrives with clients throughout Florida serviced by a seasoned team of highly experienced Account Managers and the latest in agency management technology. The staff is committed to ongoing continuing education in order to provide clients with the most effective insurance programs to suit their business and personal needs.
Further, the agency is committed to doing its part as a contributing corporate member of the Orlando community. Like his family predecessors, Mike believes in doing his part personally and professionally to strengthen the community fabric that has made Orlando the kind of place where he is proud to raise his family. He has held a leadership role in the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida for nearly two decades, as well as participation and leadership in a number of other charitable, professional, community and church-related organizations. Members of the staff devote volunteer time to a variety of similar institutions. Hatcher Insurance, Inc. supports a wide number of non-profit entities in which the staff is involved through sponsorships and donations.

Meet The Staff
Marion "Mike" F. Hatcher, III
With more than 35 years of experience in the Orlando insurance agency business, Mike Hatcher is President of Hatcher Insurance, Inc., specializing in providing comprehensive insurance products to medium to small commercial accounts. Located in College Park near downtown Orlando, Hatcher Insurance provides both Commercial and Personal Lines insurance. He literally "grew up" in the agency business in Orlando with his grandfather, former Orlando Mayor J. Rolfe Davis, who founded the agency that still today bears his name. Working for 21 years with his father, Marion Hatcher, Mike learned agency management, account management, and the relationship side of working with the insurance companies he represents. Mike started Hatcher Insurance, Inc. in 2002 to realize his longtime dream of having his own independent agency, departing as a Partner of J. Rolfe Davis Insurance during buyout negotiations with a national bank. He holds both the Florida Property and Casualty 2-20 license and the Life Insurance 2-18 license. A longtime community volunteer, Mike has served as Chairman of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida and has been on the Board of Directors for nearly two decades. He was honored with the National Service to Youth Award by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and also received the prestigious Eagle Award for Service and Leadership from the Central Florida branch. He is past Lt. Governor of Kiwanis where he earned the title "Distinguished Lt. Governor," has served on the Small Business Board of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce and was Chairman of the annual political event, HobNob. For several years, Mike served on the City of Orlando Code Enforcement Board and was Chairman for two years. He is active in his church, St. Michael's Episcopal, and several other charitable, professional and non-profit organizations. Mike and his wife, Holly, have three children. Both are graduates of the University of Florida and are avid Gator fans. He enjoys snow skiing, college football, golf and politics.
Kathy C. Berdahl, AAI
Office Manager, Account Executive
As Manager of Hatcher Insurance, Inc., Kathy Berdahl oversees the day to day operations of the office and fields many new business calls. Her in-depth experience spans 40 years after starting her career in the insurance industry as a file clerk for a small, regional insurance company. She worked for independent agencies for more than 20 years as a Customer Service Representative in the Orlando market and now in management for more than 15 years. She earned her Florida Property and Casualty 2-20 and Life Insurance 2-18 licenses. Kathy also earned the prestigious Accredited Advisor in Insurance designation after learning the agency business from the ground up. Kathy has been an integral part of Hatcher Insurance, Inc. from its inception. She was Manager of the Small Business Department of J. Rolfe Davis Insurance prior to joining Mike Hatcher when he started his new agency in 2002. An avid quilter, Kathy has been married to Jeff since 1982 and enjoys her two granddaughters. She is also a member of her church choir.
Independent Insurance Agent
Jerry Freis knows the insurance business from every angle. He underwrote Commercial Property and Casualty insurance for the southeastern part of the U.S. for 34 years with Ohio Casualty Insurance Company. Jerry retired as Senior Underwriter in 1996 and began a new career on the agency side of the business. At Hatcher Insurance, Inc., Jerry has served as a General Agent since 2005, assisting clients with their business insurance needs and putting his decades of insurance knowledge to work for them. Jerry has two sons and two grandchildren, loves to fish and go to the beach, and along with his wife, Joann, is an avid NASCAR and auto racing fan. Since 1996, Jerry has been a Board Member and is a Past President of the Florida Safety Council, a non-profit organization that promotes the core values of integrity, honesty, quality and safety service in the community and around the globe.
Jan Bardwell, AAI
Senior Account Manager
"Fresh out of high school" is how Jan Bardwell describes her start in the insurance industry when she went to work for an agency in the Chicago area before moving to Florida in 1971. With decades of experience, Jan helps clients meet their insurance goals and services accounts with the expediency of a well seasoned professional. Jan worked as a commercial Account Manager with a regional independent agency in DeLand for more than 20 years before joining a large national insurance brokerage for 8 years in the Orlando market. She then worked for J. Rolfe Davis Insurance and moved to Hatcher Insurance, Inc. when Mike Hatcher started the agency in 2002. She holds a Florida Property and Casualty 2-20 license as well as a Life Insurance 2-18 license. Jan also holds the prestigious Accredited Advisor in Insurance designation. Married to Dan, Jan enjoys travel, the beach and outdoors, needlework and reading when not spending time with her four step-children and two grandchildren.
Bette M. Flanagan, AAI, AIAM
Senior Account Manager
A graduate of Cornell University, Bette Flanagan has spent the past four decades in both Personal Lines and Commercial Lines insurance work. She serviced accounts and was in agency management for 20 years in New York City and Long Island, NY before relocating to Florida in 1997. Bette worked in the Orlando branch of a large international insurance brokerage specializing in non-profits and church programs and assisted in formulating an offshore captive program for Florida Private Colleges and Universities. She joined Hatcher Insurance in 2004 as a Commercial Lines Account Manager working on large property and non-profit accounts. In 2003, Bette earned the prestigious Accredited Advisor in Insurance designation and in 2010 earned an Associates in Insurance Account Management. She holds her Florida Property and Casualty 2-20 license as well. Bette and her husband, Kevin, have one "4-legged daughter" Rosie, their second rescue pet.
Senior Account Manager
Roberta Hann has a wealth of experience in the insurance industry, ranging from settling claims to underwriting to servicing accounts on the agency side of the business. For more than 40 years, she has worked in the insurance industry, in both Commercial Lines and Personal Lines. Roberta was an underwriter for long haul trucking at an insurance brokerage, and also specialized in restaurants as an underwriter. In 2006 she joined Hatcher Insurance, Inc. as an Account Manager. She holds a Florida Property and Casualty 2-20 license. Patriotism runs deep with Roberta, whose son served in the U.S. Army. She enjoys spending time with her twin grandchildren as well as quilting, reading, traveling and long walks with her dog, Butch.
Tina Craig-Ferrell, AAI
Senior Account Manager / Personal Lines
A Florida native, Tina Craig-Ferrell was born and raised in the Orlando area. Her experience in the insurance industry spans nearly 40 years and she is a true expert in auto, home, boat, jewelry and other personal insurance coverages. She was recruited to join Hatcher Insurance in April 2010 to head the newly formed Personal Lines Department. Tina spent 31 years working for a local independent insurance agency in Winter Park. She managed the Personal Lines department with a specialty in the affluent and high valued homes market. Tina holds a Florida Property and Casualty 2-20 license and is a Notary Public for the State of Florida. She also holds the prestigious AAI designation (Accredited Advisor in Insurance). Her hobbies include fishing, boating, walking, bike riding and reading. Tina is a fan of college football as well as NASCAR with a special fondness for Alabama's Crimson Tide from a proud family history. She enjoys watching football on Saturdays with friends and family and off season is typically found fishing or boating along Florida's east coast. She served three years on the Board of Directors for the Independent Insurance Agents of Central Florida, was a participating member of several company agency advisory boards and has been an officer or member of several other charitable and community organizations.
Dylan B. Light, PLCS
An Orlando native, Dylan Light is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and serves as a specialist in Personal Lines and Life Insurance. He holds a Florida Property & Casualty 2-20 license, as well as a Life, Health & Annuities 2-15 license. He trained with a national insurance company prior to joining Hatcher Insurance in 2014. Dylan's expertise includes tailoring life policies to meet a client's unique needs. He earned his Personal Lines Coverage Specialist (PLCS) designation and is active as an officer with the College Park Rotary Club as Sgt. at Arms. Dylan enjoys college football as an Alabama Crimson Tide fan, fitness, and working on home renovation projects.
